"Before the turn of the century Harlo Pelton's General Store and living quarters occupied this site. In 1901 George "Ed" Hopps bought and replaced the store with this two story brick building. He also build the first brick house to the north. The bricks came from Weldon kiln located northeast of Kingston. In 1913 Mr. Hopps sold to Francis Dutcher. Mr. Duther sold to Arthur Bates. In 1923 Mr. Bates sold the business to John Barden Sr. After his death in 1973, his sons, John Jr. and Don ran the business. Today three generations of Bardens, John Jr., his son Tim, and Tim's son James continue the business."
